Beginning in October each year, the Church begins it Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Evangelism effort. From children to seniors, people pack shoebox gifts each year to bless children in need around the world. Parents often use the project to teach their kids about giving. Year-round volunteers support these efforts across the country. Our members and area residents may pick up shoe boxes at Long Hill Chapel (or fill their own wrapped shoebox). Participants then pack the box. Each box may start with a quality “wow” item such as a stuffed animal, soccer ball with pump, or clothing outfit that will capture the child’s attention the instant he or she opens the box. We provide gift suggestions according to age and gender for other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to fill the shoebox. Churches and groups of all sizes collect boxes from our community. Our effort culminates the third week of November each year (November 18-25, 2019) when Long Hill Chapel serves as a local drop-off point for the region. Participants can drop off their filled shoeboxes at Long Hill Chapel. LHC Volunteers receive, log and consolidate the boxes and then transport them to the Regional Processing Center in preparation for international shipping. As we consolidate boxes, we take time to pray for the children who will receive the boxes.
